Powell & Associates Science Services is a small, minority-owned consulting company specializing in analyzing and solving complex environmental problems, with special expertise in ground water systems. Expertise includes contaminant remediation using permeable reactive subsurface barriers, site characterization, ground water geochemistry, contaminant transport and fate, ground water sampling, analytical chemistry, elxploratory data analysis, technical writing, editing and reviewing, and providing technical support to our clients on a variety of environmental topics.

    • Field studies, field research, experimental design, ground water sampling design, data analysis, preparation of interim reports, eventual preparation of an Issue Paper and a peer-reviewed journal article for the project "Anaerobic Bioactive Wall for In-Situ Reductive Bioremediation of Chloroethenes Using Induced Electrical Potential" for the U.S. EPA

    • Development of exploratory data analysis and statistics for Applied Hydrogeologic Research, Bothell, WA, for their City of Olympia Septic Monitoring Program

    • Providing services to the Snohomish County Health District, Snohomish, WA, under the contract "Groundwater Sampling Consulting Services" for evaluations of, and recommendations for, 19 landfills within Snohomish County. Teamed with Applied Hydrogeologic Research, Bothell, WA, to win this contract.

    Other subcontracted tasks have included the evaluation of research data, the production of peer-reviewed manuscripts, and the review of such materials prepared by other scientists and engineers. We have routinely performed reviews for journals, such as Environmental Science and Technology, as well as USEPA, USGS, DOD, DOE, and other governmental agencies and organizations.

    Powell & Associates maintains ongoing subcontracts to support the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's National Risk Management Research Laboratory, R.S. Kerr Environmental Research Center, Ada, OK. These subcontracts are under the auspices of prime contractors ManTech Environmental Research Services Corp. and Dynamac Corporation. Subcontracted products include the development of U.S. EPA Fact Sheets, Issue Papers, design manuals, and protocols on various ground water-related topics for use by EPA Regional Offices, state environmental agencies, Indian tribes, industry, other consultants, and citizens groups. Products also include evaluations of research and field data, the production of peer-reviewed manuscripts, the review of such materials prepared by other scientists and engineers, and the presentation of environmental training workshops.

    Recent examples of our work can be found in several publications, including Pollution Engineering (June 1997 cover article, pgs 50-54), Environmental Science & Technology (August 1997, pgs 2244-2251), , and a U.S. EPA Fact Sheet (July 1997, EPA/600/F-97/008).
